Inspiration: early spring blouses

February 1, 2018

I am getting the feeling that blouses - propelled back into the limelight by last season's exaggerated sleeve trend - will continue to be the stars of the show this spring. There are so many unusual and wonderful designs out there, and whilst sleeves are still important, designers are being creative with a variety of other features too. We are being tempted by embroidery, pearls, pattern, tie-neck or tie-at-the waist designs and a huge array of look-at-me fabrics from lace to satin.

Feast your eyes on the extravaganza below and get inspired. You may even have some similar, older gems hiding in your wardrobe - time to pull them out and dust them off. Note also the way they are styled - the coolest option of wearing them at the moment is with tough, high waisted or wider legged trousers. [My tip for ladies with shorter legs: half tuck the blouse to make this look work.]

I love the demure-but-cool vibe of this blouse, and the fact that the tie can be worn pussy-bowed or just loose. Note the subdued pastel colour too, very ss18 and how good it looks with leather. Reiss pink tie-neck blouse:

As usual, & Other Stories offer lots of bold, fresh designs. These two black ones are both gorgeous - both embellished with white embroidery, one on the [voluminous] sleeves, the other in a minimalist but boho way on the shoulder. I would wear the first with trousers, the second with skirts. Which one would you pick?

Virginal white lace will be a big trend again come summer, and I am also loving this gorgeous, light-as-air piece, still from & Other Stories, a great combination of modest and sexy -- a way to speed up summer maybe? In any case, a great addition to a wardrobe dominated by black.

Always-amazing French online shop Sezane also has many a tempting variation - my pick is the Joss blouse, with all-over lace and a peekaboo back. [Be quick if you want it as everything at Sezane always sells out in an instant.]

Simple but gorgeous - the Anna blouse from Kitri is dramatic without being OTT, and is an effective piece that needs nothing but a pair of jeans:

And another all-white piece that is all but boring: Uterque's mind-blowing batwing blouse may well be my new obsession:

Moving on to more colour, this burgundy blouse, also from Uterque, is floaty and elegant and I love the button detailing. I would wear it with minimal bottoms - imagine it with crisp white or black jeans. Kitri have a very similar piece in satin, with a high neck design, inspirationally styled with grey check trousers:

There is an undeniable hello-spring vibe that comes from this coral coloured offering from Topshop with wrap detail at the waist:

Another spring colour - this cropped wrap blouse from Love is pretty worn with skirts; add slouch boots for a modern edge:

And to finish with really vibrant pieces -- the geometric Sifka blouse from Gestuz is modern, fun and works both for the office and the weekend:

And just how amazing is this DvF blouse?? Very Salma Hayek. Despite the price tag, I am wishing I could wear warm colours just to be able to have this blouse in my arsenal. It would go so well with a black skirt; or simply with white jeans.
